On January 29, 2017, a gunman entered the Centre Culturel Islamique de Quebec and attacked worshipers gathered for evening prayers.
This senseless act of hate changed numerous lives forever. Six men lost their lives, and many others were injured. Families lost their loved ones, and Muslim communities across Canada were made to feel less safe in their places of worship.
On behalf of the Official Opposition and the Ontario NDP Caucus, you are invited to join community members and allies on the third anniversary of this attack in commemorating the lives lost, and committing to tackling Islamophobia in our cities and our province.
The evening will feature guest speaker Amira Elghawaby, a journalist and human rights advocate, who has written extensively on Islamophobia, human rights, and the need to defend multiculturalism.
